SARAJEVO (August 26) – European champion Aleksander KOMAROV and national team newcomer Artur SARGSIAN snapped up a pair of gold medals as Russia stormed to the Greco-Roman team title on Day Two of the Cadet Wrestling World Championships.

Komarov and Sargsian won the 69kg and 85kg crowns in a combined time 2:23 while teammates Abu-Muslim AMAEV (42kg), Atmir KOTCEV (46kg) and Astema BARAGUNOV (76kg) added a silver and two bronze medals on the final day of Greco-Roman action.

Russia took the team title with 69 points – scoring 45 on Wednesday – two gold medals, two silver and a bronze.  Iran followed with 41 points and three gold medalists, while Turkey finished third with 39 points and a silver and bronze medal each.

Turkey’s hopes for a gold medal were dashed when European champion Kerem KAMAL (TUR) surrendered a four-point headlock in the 46kg final and Asian bronze medalist Turabek TIRKASHEV (UZB) held on for a 7-7 win on criteria. 

Iran got its third gold medal of the competition from Marz POYA DAD (42kg) with a late force-out from arm control for a 2-1 win over Amaev in the first gold medal final of the evening.

Komarov took control of the 69kg final early against Norbert DASZKIEWICZ (POL) and wrapped up last year’s world No.13 with a go-behind and quick gut wrench for an 8-0 triumph at 1:55.
In the Greco-Roman finale, Sargsian also raced to an 8-0 victory at 85kg with a chest-lock from in front, cranking Markus RAGGINGER (AUT) over to stop the clock at 28 seconds.

Despite the loss, Ragginger remains the winner of Austria’s third medal in the cadet world championships.  Georg MARCHL (81kg) won a gold medal in Greco-Roman in 1982 and Martina KUENZ (70kg) brought home a bronze medal in 2011.

In between the two Russian wins, European silver medalist Dmitri KIASHOK (UKR) bounced back from an early takedown and locked up Vadim HRACHUKHIN (BLR) with a chest-to-chest lock and arched him over for the fall at 1:17.

Action continues Thursday with the first half of the women’s wrestling competition at 38kg, 43kg, 49kg, 56kg and 65kg.
