KRASNOYARSK, Russia (January 30) – Imam ADZHIEV (RUS) scored late for an early 6-5 win against Viktor LEBEDEV (RUS) on Saturday and set his sights on his first senior-level medal at the Yarygin Grand Prix on Saturday.
Adzhiev nailed an inside trip-to-takedown in the first round at 61kg and held on for a 6-5 victory over the two-time former world champion. The win propelled the 2014 European junior champ into the final, where he will meet Nyurgun SKRYABIN (RUS).
Skryabin, a bronze medalist in Krasnoyarsk one year ago, advanced with a fall over last year’s Ali Aliev winner Akhmed CHAKAEV (RUS) and a 4-1 decision over 2014 Aliev titlist Murshid MUTALIMOV (RUS).
Lebedev, meanwhile, rebounded in repechage to earn a chance at a bronze medal against Khezhuik CHIMBA (RUS).
In other men’s categories. another Aliev winner Shamil KUDIYAMAGOMEDOV (RUS) booked his place in the 86kg final opposite junior world bronze medalist Arsenali MUSALALIEV (RUS), while last year’s runner-up Alan KHUGAEV (RUS) tries to reclaim the Yarygin crown he won in 2014 when he faces 2013 champion at 96kg Vladislav BAITSAEV (RUS).

In the women’s events, Japan pushed three more into the finals where they will face Russian opponents while Asian silver medalist BADRAKH Odonchimeg (MGL) defeated Kayoko KUDO (JPN) with a late takedown in the 75kg semifinals to prevent a Japanese sweep.
Badrakh will square off with Beijing 2008 Olympian Elena PEREPELKINA (RUS), who pinned 2014 world bronze medalist OCHIRBAT Burmaa (MGL) in the other semifinal.
Kicking off for the Japanese will be 2012 junior world champion and newly minted Japanese national champion Yuki IRIE (48kg) against Nadeshda FEDOROVA (RUS), the winner in last year’s inaugural European under-23 championships.
Asia champion Anri KIMURA (55kg) follows for Japan against Nadeshda TRETYAKOVA (RUS), who will be seeking her second Yarygin crown after taking the title in 2012.
Japan’s third entry Ayaka ITO (63kg), a bronze medalist in Krasnoyarsk in 2013, will face 2015 runner-up Inna TRAZHUKOVA (RUS).
