CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY, Switzerland (January 4) – United World Wrestling has suspended Iranian wrestler Bashir Asgari BABAJANZADEH and Azerbaijan’s Zubair DIBIROV for four years each following violations of the organization’s anti-doping policy.

Babajanzadeh suspension stems from an anti-doping violation at the 2016 Greco-Roman World Cup in Shiraz.

United World Wrestling administered an anti-doping test May 20 and had it processed through a WADA-accredited laboratory in Cologne, Germany. Babajanzadeh test indicated the presence of testosterone, which is an anabolic steroid on WADA’s 2016 List of Prohibited Substances. Babajanzadeh chose not to have his B sample examined.

In accordance with the United World Wrestling anti-doping rules, Babajanzadeh had his case reviewed by a sporting judge who ultimately rendered a 4-year period of ineligibility from 31 August 2016 until 30 August 2020.

United World Wrestling has also suspended Azerbaijani wrestler Zubair DIBIROV for four years following a failure of his anti-doping test at the Junior World Championships in Macon, France. Dibirov chose to not have his B Sample analyzed.

United World Wrestling issued the test September 1 and had it processed through a WADA-accredited laboratory in Paris. Dibirov showed the presence of stanozolol metabolites, an anabolic steroid on WADA’s 2016 List of Prohibited Substances.

In accordance with the United World Wrestling anti-doping rules Dibirov had his case reviewed by a sporting judge who rendered a 4-year period of ineligibility from 5 October 2016 until 4th October 2020.
