Valencia Escoto Hace Historia para México en #WrestleOttawa Clasificatorio Olímpico

OTTAWA, Canada – Alma Jane VALENCIA ESCOTO (MEX) won her semifinal match at 57 kg, becoming the first woman in history from Mexico to qualify for the Olympic Games in wrestling.

In the preliminary rounds, Valencia collected wins against Betzabeth SARCO COLMENAREZ (VEN), 5-1, and Nes Marie RODRIGUEZ TIRADO (PUR) by pin.

To earn a spot in the Olympic Games, Valencia knocked off 2019 World champion Linda MORAIS (CAN) in the semifinal with another victory by fall. She went on to win the finals by injury default to take the gold medal.

In this weekend’s event, the top-two from each weight class will earn a bid for their countries to the 2020 Olympics.

The United States women’s freestyle team qualified its remaining four weight classes for the Tokyo Olympics, advancing all of its athletes to the Pan American Olympic Qualifier finals.

Thanks to medal-winning performances at 68 kg and 76 kg at the 2019 World Championships, the United States entered the weekend with two weights already qualified. On Saturday, it completed its team sending Sarah HILDEBRANDT (50 kg), Jacarra WINCHESTER (53 kg), Helen MAROULIS (57 kg) and Kayla MIRACLE (62 kg) to their respective finals.

Today was the first international competition for 2016 Olympic champion Maroulis since the 2018 World Championships. She took the 2019 season off due to injury.

In her first bout, Maroulis defeated returning World champion Linda MORAIS (CAN) with a 12-2 technical fall.

Maroulis wasn’t the only World medalist to qualify the weight for the USA.

Hildebrandt is a 2018 World silver medalist at 53 kg. This year, she moved down to 50 kg for the Olympics, which is the weight she qualified today.

In the semifinals, Hildebrandt defeated 2012 World champion and two-time World bronze medalist Jessica MACDONALD (CAN) with a dominant 11-0 performance.

Similarly, Winchester, the 2019 World champion at 55 kg, moved down a weight class to compete at 53 kg this year.

To qualify, Winchester defeated 2016 Pan American champion Samantha STEWART (CAN), 8-4, in the semifinals.

Brazil, Canada and Cuba also qualified multiple weight classes for the Tokyo Olympics.

Earning three spots for Cuba were Yusneylis GUZMAN LOPEZ (50 kg), Lianna de la Caridad MONTERO HERRERA (53 kg) and 2018 U23 World champion Yudari SANCHEZ RODRIGUEZ (68 kg).

Brazil picked up two spots with Lais NUNES DE OLIVEIRA (62 kg) and 2014 World silver medalist Aline DA SILVA FERREIRA (76 kg) advancing to the finals.

Nunes and da Silva were funded by the United World Wrestling Development Technical Assistance program, which allows athletes from developing countries the opportunities to compete at top-level events. Their qualifications for the Olympic Games would not have been possible without the support of UWW.

Host country Canada also qualified two spots, thanks to 2018 World silver medalist Danielle LAPPAGE (68 kg) and 2016 Olympic champion Erica WIEBE (76 kg).

The Pan American Olympic Qualifier wraps up tomorrow with the men’s freestyle competition.

OTTAWA, Canada – Alma Jane VALENCIA ESCOTO (MEX) gano su semifinal en 57 kg para convertirse en la primera Mexicana en clasificar a unos Juegos Olimpicos en lucha.

En las primeras rondas, Valencia derroto a Betzabeth SARCO COLMENAREZ (VEN) y Nes Marie RODRIGUEZ TIRADO (PUR).

Para calificar la categoria, Valencia vencio a la campeona mundial de 2019 Linda MORAIS (CAN) por puestaespalda y en la final, la Mexicana gano por lesion y para así quedarse con la medalla de oro.

En este evento, los dos mejores atletas de cada categoría calificaron a sus países a la justa Olímpica.

La cuatro integrantes del equipo de Estados Unidos avanzaron a las finales en sus respectivas categorías, con lo que clasificaron a Tokio 2020.

Gracias a que en el Campeonato Mundial de 2019 resultaron ganadores de medalla en 68 y 76 kg en el 2019, los Estados Unidos llegaron a este evento con dos categorias ya clasificadas, por lo que hoy completaron el equipo con Sarah HILDEBRANDT (50 kg), Jacarra WINCHESTER (53 kg), Helen MAROULIS (57 kg) y Kayla MIRACLE (62 kg).

Hoy fue la primera competencia internacional en 2 años para la campeona olimpica en Río 2016 Helen Maroulis, ya que no participaba en un evento de esta naturaleza desde el Campeonato Mundial 2018.

En su primero combate, Maroulis derroto a la campeona mundial 2019 Morais de Canada por superioridad tecnica.

Maroulis no fue la unica medallista mundial quien califico su categoria para EE. UU. Hildebrandt medallista de plata en 2018, y Winchester ganadora de la medalla de oro en 2019 también consiguieron el boleto a Tokio.

Brasil, Canadá y Cuba también tuvieron m múltiples clasificados para los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio.

Cuba se quedó con tres plazas gracias a Yusneylis GUZMAN LOPEZ (50 kg), Lianna de la Caridad MONTERO HERRERA (53 kg) y campeona mundial U23 de 2018, Yudari SANCHEZ RODRIGUEZ (68 kg).

Por otro lado, Brazil recolecto dos lugares cuando Lais NUÑES DE OLIVEIRA (62 kg) y la medallista mundial en 2014, Aline DA SILVA FERREIRA (76 kg) avanzaron a los combates finales.

Nuñes y da Silva fueron financiadas por el programa United World Wrestling Development Technical Assistance, que brinda a los atletas de países en desarrollo la oportunidad de competir en eventos de alto nivel. La clasificacion de ambas no sería posible sin el apoyo de UWW.

Canada califico dos categorías, gracias a la medallista de plata del mundial 2018 Danielle LAPPAGE (68 kg) y a la campeona olimpica debRío 2016 Erica WIEBE (76 kg).

El Clasificatorio Olímpico Panamericano termina mañana con los combates del estilo libre masculino.

Vlasov et Aleksanyan champions à Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (September 7) - Roman VLASOV (RUS) returned to form and Artur ALEKSANYAN (ARM) repeated as world champion Monday, the opening day of the Senior Wrestling World Championships.

Vlasov defeated a pair of 2014 world champions on his way to winning the 75kg crown at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas while Aleksanyan overpowered London 2012 Olympic Games gold medalist Ghasem REZAEI (ARM) for his second straight world title at 98kg.

Meanwhile, Frank STAEBLER (GER) won his first world title with wins over defending champion Davor STEFANEK (SRB) and 2013 world champion RYU Han-Soo (KOR).

The victory was also Germany’s first world title in Greco-Roman Alfred TER-MKRTCHYAN (GER) won the 52kg crown and Thomas ZANDER (GER) bagged the 82kg title in 1994.

But the day, for the most part, belonged to Vlasov as he opened with a 5-0 win over 2014 champion Arsen JULFALAKYAN (USA) and then threw threw the 2014 champion at 80kg Peter BACSI (HUN) in the round of 16 for another 5-0 win.

“I cherish this medal more than the gold medal I won in London,” said 2012 Olympic Games champion.  “I went through so much trouble the last couple of years, but in everything I have persevered, fought and won.

In the 75kg final against two-time world silver medalist Mark MADSEN (DEN), Vlasov scored two points with a lift and throw in the first period, then followed up with back-arching throw for four points for a 6-0 lead which he made stand for the win.

Despite the victory, however, Vlasov did not have a chance to square off with KIM Hyeon-Woo (KOR), who defeated the Russian for the 2013 world title. Kim lost to Asian Games bronze medalist Doszhan KARTIKOV (KAZ) in  the round of 16 and Vlasov rolled over Kartikov 7-0 in the quarterfinals.

“I know that Kim is a great competitor and I expect him to be one of my toughest opponent’s next year,” Vlasov said, looking ahead to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

At 96kg, Aleksanyan dominated throughout the morning session and then rolled Rezaei up in the first period for two points and added a force-out point in the second for a 3-0 victory.

At 66kg, Frank STAEBLER (GER) converted on a par terre chance in the first period and held on through the second period for a 5-1 triumph over 2013 world champion RYU Han-Soo (KOR).

In the bronze medal bouts, 2014 world champ Davor STEFANEK (SRB) stepped a gut wrench attempt and defeated Tarek Aziz BENAISSA (ALG) for one bronze medal at 66kg. Artem SURKOV (RUS) defeated Migran ARUTYUNYAN (ARM), 6-2, in a replay of June’s European Games final.

At 75kg, Andrew BISEK (USA) received a two-point leg penalty from an attempted lift and made it stand for a 2-0 over 2011 world champ Saied Mourad ABDVALI (IRI) and a second straight world bronze medal.

Asian Games bronze medalist Dozshan KARTIKOV (RUS) made a penalty point for passivity stand for a 1-0 win over European Games champion Elvin MURSALIYEV (AZE)/

At 98kg, European Games winner Islam MAGOMEDOV (RUS) came out of an early scramble with a 5-2 lead and marched to a 6-2 victory over 2011 world champion Elis GURI (BUL).

European Games runner-up Dmitri TIMCHENKO (UKR) received two points on a late leg penalty and defeated Alin ALEXUC-CIURARIU (ROU), 4-2.

Wrestling in Greco-Roman continues Tuesday with action at 59kg, 71kg, 80kg and 130kg.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (7 septembre) - Roman VLASOV (RUS) au top de sa forme et Artur ALEKSANYAN (ARM) à nouveau champion du monde : belle compétition lors du jours d’ouverture des Championnats du Monde de lutte senior.

Vlasov a battu deux champions du monde de 2014 avant de remporter le titre à 75 kg à l’arène Orleans de Las Vegas, alors qu’Aleksanyan a battu le médaillé d’or des Jeux de Londres en 2012 Ghasem REZAEI (ARM)  et remporte son second titre mondial consécutif à 98 kg.

Frank STAEBLER (GER) a remporté ses premiers Championnats du Monde face au champion en titre Davor STEFANEK (SRB)  et au champion du monde de 2013 RYU Han-Soo (KOR).

C’est également le premier titre mondial que remporte l’Allemagne en lutte gréco-romaine. Alfred TER-MKRTCHYAN (GER) avait gagné à 52kg Thomas ZANDER (GER) à 82 kg en 1994.

Mais la star de la journée était Vlasov. Il a battu le champion de 2014 Arsen JULFALAKYAN (USA)  5-0, et a ensuite battu le champion de 2014 à 80 kg Peter BACSI (HUN) sur le même score.

« Cette médaille compte plus que la médaille d’or que j’ai remporté à Londres » déclare le champion des Jeux Olympiques de 2012. « Ces deux années ont été tellement difficiles, mais je n’ai pas abandonné, je me suis battu et j’ai gagné. »

En finale à 75 kg, Vlasov a marqué deux points avec un lift and throw en première période face au double médaillé d’argent Mark MADSEN (DEN), puis a continué a marquer avec un back arching throw qui lui a valu quatre points et l’avantage de 6-0, score sur lequel il a remporté la rencontre.

Vlasov n’a pas eu l’opportunité de se mesure à KIM Hyeon-Woo (KOR), qui avait battu le russe en 2013. Kimi a perdu face au médaillé de bronze des Jeux d’Asie Doszhan KARTIKOV (KAZ), et Vlasov a facilement battu Kartikov 7-0 en quarts de finale.

« Je sais que Kim est un excellent lutteur et je pense qu’il sera l’un de mes adversaires les plus dangereux l’année prochaine » dit Vlasov en pensant aux Jeux Olympiques de Rio en 2016.

A 96 kg, Aleksanyan a gagné tous ses matchs du matin puis a battu Rezaei 3-0.

A 66 kg, Frank STAEBLER (GER) a battu le champion du monde de 2013 RYU Han-Soo (KOR). 5-1.

Dans les matchs pour le bronze, le champion du monde de 2014 Davor STEFANEK (SRB) a battu Tarek Aziz BENAISSA (ALG) à 66 kg. Artem SURKOV (RUS) a battu Migran ARUTYUNYAN (ARM), 6-2. Ils s’étaient déjà affrontés en finale des Jeux d’Europe en juin.

A 75 kg, Andrew BISEK (USA) a battu le champion du monde de 2011 Saied Mourad ABDVALI (IRI)  2-0 et remporte sa seconde médaille de bronze consécutive au niveau mondial.

Le médaillé de bronze des Jeux d’Asie Dozshan KARTIKOV (RUS) a battu le champion des Jeux d’Europe Elvin MURSALIYEV (AZE) 1-0.

A 98 kg, le vainqueur des Jeux d’Europe Islam MAGOMEDOV (RUS) a battu le champion du monde de 2011 Elis GURI (BUL) 6-2.

Le vice champion des Jeux d’Europe Dmitri TIMCHENKO (UKR) a battu Alin ALEXUC-CIURARIU (ROU), 4-2.
