Trois américains en finale des Jeux Pan American

TORONTO, Canada (14 juillet) – Le médaillé de bronze au niveau mondial Andrew BISEK (USA) a réalisé de belles performances au début de la compétition de lutte gréco-romaine aux Jeux Pan American mercredi, et a mené un trio de champions de 2014 en finale pour les médailles d’or.

Bisek a battu Juan ESCOBAR (MEX) par supériorité technique en demi-finale à 75 kg et affrontera en finale Alvis ALMENDRA (PAN), qui a terminé 7e des Championnats Pan American en avril.

Bisek avait gagné les Championnats Pan Am l’année passée. Il sera rejoint par les champion des Pan American Jon ANDERSON (85 KG) et par le médaillé d’argent de 2014 Bryce SADDORIS (66kg).

Saddoris affrontera Wuileixis RIVAS (VEN), le champion Pan American de l’année passée à 71 kg, et Anderson affrontra Querys PEREZ (VEN) en finale à 85 kg. Rivas s’est qualifié pour les finales à 66 kg en battant le champion Pan Am de l’année passée Miguel MARTINEZ (CUB) 2-1.

Ce début de compétition a été un désastre pour les cubains. Le triple champion des Pan Am Ismael BORRERO (CUB) s’est incliné face à Spenser MANGO (USA) 3-3 en quarts de finale à 59 kg.

Alan VERA (CUB) a été battu par Anderson en demi-finale, 8-0 par supériorité technique.

Dans la première finale de la soirée à 59 kg, le médaillé de bronze des Pan Am 2013 Ali SOTO (MEX) affrontera le médaillé d’argent de 2012 Andres MONTANO (ECU). Montano a battu Mango 9-1 pour se qualifier en finale.

Jeux Pan Am : Rey et Burroughs remportent l'or

TORONTO, Canada (18 juillet) – Le champion en titre Jordan BURROUGHS (USA) a encore une fois remporté les Jeux Pan American samedi. Les Etats-Unis ont remporté trois médailles d’or et une médaille d’argent lors du dernier jour de compétition des Jeux 2015 de Toronto.

Le champion mondial et olympique Burroughs a facilement remporté trois victoires par supériorité technique, notamment 13-1 face à Livan LOPEZ (CUB) en quarts de finale, et a remporté sa seconde médaille d’or des Jeux Pan Am. Il avait déjà gagné à Guadalajara en 2011.

En finale à 74 kg, Burroughs a affronté le champion des Jeux d’Amérique du Sud Yoan BLANCO (ECU), qu’il a battu avec une série de force-outs en première période.

Lopez, médaillé d’or à 66 kg à Guadalajara, a remporté le bronze après sa défaite face à Burroughs.

Le triple vainqueur des Championnats Pan Am Zach REY (USA) a remporté ses premiers Jeux Pan Am. C’est son deuxième titre continental cette année. Il a battu Korey JARVIS (CAN) 3-0 en finale à 125 kg.

L’ancien champion du monde junior Kyle SNYDER (USA) a gagné 10-0 par supériorité technique face à Arjun GILL (CAN) en finale à 97 kg. C’est son premier titre senior majeur. 

In the 74kg final, Burroughs softened up South American Games champion Yoan BLANCO (ECU) with a series of force-outs in the first period, then wrapped up the technical fall with a single-leg attack and a pair of cross-ankle turns.

Lopez, the gold medalist at 66kg in Guadalajara, rebounded for a bronze medal after his loss to Burroughs.

Meanwhile, three-time Pan American championships winner Zach REY (USA) won his first Pan American Games crown to double up on the continental titles this year. Rey defeated Korey JARVIS (CAN), 3-0, in the 125kg final.

Former junior world champ Kyle SNYDER (USA) made a big splash with his third technical fall of the day, 10-0, over Arjun GILL (CAN) in the 97kg final for his first major senior title.

Jake HERBERT (USA), the Games’ defending middleweight champion, came out on the short end of a wide-open final at 86kg, falling 12-7 to world silver medalist Reineris SALAS (CUB) and his wicked double-leg attack.

With three gold medals on the final day of wrestling, the United States completed the freestyle competition with four of the six gold medals on offer along with a pair of silver medals for 58 points.

Cuba, meanwhile, grabbed the other two gold medals as well as a silver and two more bronze medals, to finish second in freestyle with 49 points. Canada was even more distant in third place with 40 points.

Jake HERBERT (USA), champion en titre de la catégorie de poids moyens, s’est incliné en finale à 86 kg face au médaillé d’argent au niveau mondial Reineris SALAS (CUB).

Avec trois médailles d’or remportées lors du dernier jour de compétition, les Etats Unis terminent la compétition de lutte libre avec quatre des six médailles d’or disponibles, ainsi que deux médailles d’argent pour un total de 58 points.

Cuba a remporté les deux autres médailles d’or, une médaille d’argent et deux médailles de bronze et termine second avec 49 points. Le Canada est loin derrière avec 40 points.
