Military wrestlers from all over the world gathered in Iran to compete in 2013 World Military Wrestling Championships, with host Iran capturing the team title in both Greco-Roman and freestyle
In Greco-Roman the home team captured three gold medals, two silver and two bronze medals. Iran Greco-Roman team placed first with 64 points, Kazakhstan came in second and Ukraine nabbed third.
In addition to military, several world and Olympic medal winners (also in the military) competed in this year’s event. North Korea’s Yun Won Chol -- who won the 2013 World Champion at 55-kilos -- had an excellent tournament, beating each of his opponents by technical superiority.
Iran joined in the winning ways, crowning two champions when Saeid Abdevali, a 2011 World champion at 66-kilo won the 74-kilo weight class, and 2011 world medalist Bashir Babajanzadeh captured the gold at 120-kilo.
Oleksander Shyshman from Ukraine defeated 2012 Olympic bronze medal winner Damian Janikowski of Poland 8-1 in the 84-kilo finals.
Iran also came out strong in freestyle, winning five golds and two silver medals.
Chian’s Deng Zhi Wei, a 2011 bronze medalist at the Asian Championships and who was fifth at 2013 World Championships, won the gold at 120-kilos to help avoid the Iranian shutout. Meanwhile at 55-kilos PR-Korea wrestler Jong Hakjin also took the gold, beating Iranian Hamidreza Khamesi.
