3:30: A year after winning his first world title at age 19, Kyle SNYDER (USA) captured an Olympic gold medal at the age 20. Snyder edged Khetag GAZYUMOV (AZE) 2-1 in the gold-medal match at 97kg, avenging a loss from the German Grand Prix in July. The American used a single leg to score a step out and take a 1-0 lead two minutes into the match. Early in the second period Gazyumov was put on the shot clock, but was unable to score, giving Snyder a point. Midway through the second period, Snyder was put on the shot clock, but could not score, giving Gazyumov a point, to make the score 2-1 in favor of the American. Snyder then fended off Gazyumov's attacks and held on for the victory. 

3:16: Magomed IBRAGIMOV (UZB) held on to defeat Valeri ANDRIITSEV (UKR) 6-4 to win a bronze medal at 97kg. Ibragimov scored the go-ahead takedown with two minutes left to go up by one. Andriitsev came close to scoring a takedown in the final seconds, but ran out of time. The call was challenged and upheld, giving Ibragimov a two-point win and the Olympic bronze. 

3:02: Albert SARITOV (ROU), a 2011 world bronze medalist, won the first bronze-medal match at 97kg with a 10-0 technical fall over Elizbar ODIKADZE (GEO). Saritov started quickly, scoring with a four-point counter. He would go on to score three more takedown and finish the match in the second period. He becomes Romania's first freestyle Olympic medalist since 1988.

2:24: Soslan RAMONOV (RUS) claimed the Olympic gold medal at 65kg and denied Togrul ASGAROV (AZE) his second straight Olympic title. Ramonov, a 2014 world champion, came out strong, scoring with a step out and two four-point takedowns to go up 9-0. He then scored a takedown just over two minutes into the match to secure the 11-0 technical fall.

2:18: In a bizarre finish, Ikhtiyor NAVRUZOV (UZB) edged GANZORIG Mandakhnaran (MGL) 8-7 on criteria to take the second bronze medal. Trailing 6-4 late in the match, the Mongolian picked up a takedown with 18 seconds on the clock to make the score 6-6 and give him the criteria lead. The call was challenged and upheld, making the score 7-6 in favor of Ganzorig. Then in the closing 18 seconds the Mongolian would not engage and celebrated prematurely. He was called for fleeing the hold, giving the Uzbekistan wrestler a point and the victory on criteria (caution). The Mongolia coaches disputed and challenged the call, but the call was upheld, giving Navruzov the bronze medal.

1:57: Frank CHAMIZO (ITA), a world champion last year, picked up his first Olympic medal by beating Frank MOLINARO (USA) 5-3 in the first bronze-medal match at 65kg. Molinaro led 2-1 after the opening period. In the second period Chamizo picked up a point off the shot clock, then with just over a minute left shot in and scored a takedown to go up 4-2. Molinaro would get in on Chamizo late in the match and nearly scored a takedown, but had to settle for a step out. The call was challenged and upheld.

1:45: Magomed IBRAGIMOV (UZB) made quick work of two-time world champion Reza YAZDANI (IRI), earning a fall in 33 seconds off a throw. 

1:41: World No.15 Albert SARITOV (ROU), a 2011 world bronze medalist, used a big second period to pull away from Javier CORTINA LACERRA (CUB) 8-1 in repechage at 97kg. The Cuban led 1-0 after the first period. With just over a minute left in the match Saritov scored a takedown and used a gut wrench to go up 4-1. Two more turns with a leg lace made it 8-1.

1:30: GANZORIG Mandakhnaran (MGL), a two-time world bronze medalist, grinded out a 3-0 shutout victory over Haislan GARCIA (CAN) to advance to the bronze-medal match at 65kg. Ganzorig's points came from a step out and two cautions (shot clock and fleeing).  

1:18:  Frank MOLINARO (USA) will wrestle for a bronze medal after defeating Andriy KVYATKOVSKY (UKR) 8-5 in repechage at 65kg. Molinaro picked up two takedowns in the final minute to pull out the victory.

1:07: Two-time world champion Reza YAZDANI (IRI) topped Radoslaw BARAN (POL) 5-2 in repechage at 97kg. Yazdani scored his first point off the shot clock and then picked up a takedown with 10 seconds left in the first period. He would add two more points in the final period from a step out and failed challenge.

12:54: Haislan GARCIA (CAN) came from behind in the final 15 seconds to beat Alejandro VALDES TOBIER (CUB) 3-3 on criteria. Valdes Tobier led 3-1 late in the match before Garcia shot in, got behind the Cuban wrestler and eventually drove him to the mat for a takedown. 

2:24: Soslan RAMONOV (RUS) a remporté l’or à 65 kg et prive Togrul ASGAROV (AZE) de sa seconde médaille d’or olympique consécutive. Ramonov, champion du monde den 2014, a rapidement pris l’avantage 9-0. Il a ensuite marqué un plaquage en deux minutes de match, et s’est assuré la victoire par supériorité technique sur le score de 11-0.

2:18 :Ikhtiyor NAVRUZOV (UZB) a battu GANZORIG Mandakhnaran (MGL) 8-7 sur critères  et remporte la seconde médaille de bronze. Le lutteur mongole était mené 6-4 tard dans le match et a marqué un plaquage pour revenir à 6-6 18 secondes avant la fin de la rencontre, lui donnant l’avantage sur critère. Cette décision a été contestée et le challenge retenu, changeant ainsi le score à 7-6 en faveur de Ganzorig. Puis dans les 18 secondes restantes, le Mongole n’a pas voulu revenir au contact et a célébré sa victoire prématurément. Il a été sanctionné pour avoir évité le contact, offrant un point à son adversaire et par la même occasion lui offrant la victoire sur critères (pour avertissement). Les coaches mongols ont disputé cette décision, mais le score a été maintenu, et c’est Navruzov qui a remporté le bronze.

1:57: Frank CHAMIZO (ITA), champion du monde l’année passée, a remporté sa première médaille olympique. Il a battu Frank MOLINARO (USA) 5-3 pour le bronze à 65 kg. Molinaro menait 2-1 après la première période, mais Chamizo a marqué 4-2 en seconde période. Molinaro a contre attaqué en fin de match et a failli marquer un plaquage, mais a du se contenter d’un step out. Le challenge a été demandé et obtenu.

1:45: Magomed IBRAGIMOV (UZB) a rapidement battu le champion du monde Reza YAZDANI (IRI). Il a remporté le match par tombé en 33 secondes. 

1:41: Le No.15 mondial Albert SARITOV (ROU), médaillé de bronze au niveau mondial en 2011, a battu Javier CORTINA LACERRA (CUB) 8-1 in repêchage à 97kg. Le cubain menait 1-0 après la première période et a marqué tous les autres points quelques secondes avant la fin du match.

1:30: GANZORIG Mandakhnaran (MGL), double médaillé de bronze au niveau mondial, a battu Haislan GARCIA (CAN) 3-0 et s’est qualifié pour les finales de bronze à 65 kg.

1:18:  Frank MOLINARO (USA) s’est qualifié pour le bronze après avoir battu Andriy KVYATKOVSKY (UKR) 8-5 en repêchage à 65kg. Molinaro a marqué deux plaquages dans la dernière minute du match.

1:07: Le double champion du monde Reza YAZDANI (IRI) a battu Radoslaw BARAN (POL) 5-2 en repêchage à 97kg. Yazdani a marqué son premier point en tout début de match et a ensuite marqué un plaquage 10 secondes avant la fin de la première période. Il a marqué deux points supplémentaires en dernière période.

12:54: Haislan GARCIA (CAN) a battu Alejandro VALDES TOBIER (CUB) 3-3 sur critères. Valdes Tobier menait 3-1 jusqu’à ce que Garcia ne marque un plaquage.
