Four earn double titles at European Grappling Championships

BAKU, Azerbaijan (May 29) -- The dominance of Individual Neutral Athletes was challenged by the field in the Grappling Gi competition at the European Grappling Championships in Baku. After AINs won all 10 gold medals in men's grappling, they were stopped to five in Grappling Gi.

Magomedbek TEMEEV (AIN), Artur AGASHIRINOV (AIN) and Eldar RAFIGAEV (MDA) upgraded their silver medals to gold in grappling while Shamil MAZHIDKHANOV (AIN) repeated as the European champion.

Jerzy IZDEBSKI (POL), Samy MEZACHE (FRA) and Mateusz MAZUR (POL) were bronze medalists in grappling but managed to win the gold medal in Grappling Gi with some stunning performances.

In women's Grappling Gi, Alicja IRENA (POL) upgraded her silver to gold at 53kg, avenging her loss to Carlota PRENDES (ESP) in the final. Olesia ZHURAVLEVA (AIN) repeated as the champion at 58kg as did Alsu IANSHINA (AIN) at 71kg and Justyna SITKO (POL) at 90kg.

Laila OHLHOFF (GER) made sure she capped off her run at 64kg with a gold medal, beating Veronika KARAKHONOVA (AIN), 6-5, in a thrilling final.

Legendary Coach Trujillo Arrives in Kyrgyzstan to Hone Greco Talent

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (April 24) -- Raul TRUJILLO DIAZ (CUB), the recipient of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coaches Lifetime Achievement Award, is on a mission to change the Greco-Roman landscape. 

After spending two months in China, Trujillo is in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to help the country's U23 national team as it prepares for the U23 Asian Championships next month in Vietnam.

Trujillo was welcomed in Bishkek on Thursday and he visited the national academy and from Monday he will join the national camp to guide the team for the tournament.

Last year, Trujillo signed a development contract to work with UWW with a focus on youth development, coach education, and high-performance training systems.

Trujillo has been a long time coach and lifelong mentor of Mijain LOPEZ, guiding him through the most dominant stretch of his historic career.

Kyrgyzstan recently hosted the Asian Championships in Bishkek and had a successful campaign in Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Women's Wrestling. The country finished second in team standing in Greco, fourth in Women's Wrestling and fifth in Freestyle.
