Jeux Pan Am : Rey et Burroughs remportent l'or

TORONTO, Canada (18 juillet) – Le champion en titre Jordan BURROUGHS (USA) a encore une fois remporté les Jeux Pan American samedi. Les Etats-Unis ont remporté trois médailles d’or et une médaille d’argent lors du dernier jour de compétition des Jeux 2015 de Toronto.

Le champion mondial et olympique Burroughs a facilement remporté trois victoires par supériorité technique, notamment 13-1 face à Livan LOPEZ (CUB) en quarts de finale, et a remporté sa seconde médaille d’or des Jeux Pan Am. Il avait déjà gagné à Guadalajara en 2011.

En finale à 74 kg, Burroughs a affronté le champion des Jeux d’Amérique du Sud Yoan BLANCO (ECU), qu’il a battu avec une série de force-outs en première période.

Lopez, médaillé d’or à 66 kg à Guadalajara, a remporté le bronze après sa défaite face à Burroughs.

Le triple vainqueur des Championnats Pan Am Zach REY (USA) a remporté ses premiers Jeux Pan Am. C’est son deuxième titre continental cette année. Il a battu Korey JARVIS (CAN) 3-0 en finale à 125 kg.

L’ancien champion du monde junior Kyle SNYDER (USA) a gagné 10-0 par supériorité technique face à Arjun GILL (CAN) en finale à 97 kg. C’est son premier titre senior majeur. 

In the 74kg final, Burroughs softened up South American Games champion Yoan BLANCO (ECU) with a series of force-outs in the first period, then wrapped up the technical fall with a single-leg attack and a pair of cross-ankle turns.

Lopez, the gold medalist at 66kg in Guadalajara, rebounded for a bronze medal after his loss to Burroughs.

Meanwhile, three-time Pan American championships winner Zach REY (USA) won his first Pan American Games crown to double up on the continental titles this year. Rey defeated Korey JARVIS (CAN), 3-0, in the 125kg final.

Former junior world champ Kyle SNYDER (USA) made a big splash with his third technical fall of the day, 10-0, over Arjun GILL (CAN) in the 97kg final for his first major senior title.

Jake HERBERT (USA), the Games’ defending middleweight champion, came out on the short end of a wide-open final at 86kg, falling 12-7 to world silver medalist Reineris SALAS (CUB) and his wicked double-leg attack.

With three gold medals on the final day of wrestling, the United States completed the freestyle competition with four of the six gold medals on offer along with a pair of silver medals for 58 points.

Cuba, meanwhile, grabbed the other two gold medals as well as a silver and two more bronze medals, to finish second in freestyle with 49 points. Canada was even more distant in third place with 40 points.

Jake HERBERT (USA), champion en titre de la catégorie de poids moyens, s’est incliné en finale à 86 kg face au médaillé d’argent au niveau mondial Reineris SALAS (CUB).

Avec trois médailles d’or remportées lors du dernier jour de compétition, les Etats Unis terminent la compétition de lutte libre avec quatre des six médailles d’or disponibles, ainsi que deux médailles d’argent pour un total de 58 points.

Cuba a remporté les deux autres médailles d’or, une médaille d’argent et deux médailles de bronze et termine second avec 49 points. Le Canada est loin derrière avec 40 points.

Burroughs remporte son sixième titre panaméricain ; l'Équateur compte deux championnes

BUENOS AIRES, Argentine (5 mai) – Les épreuves féminines se sont terminées vendredi, tandis que les épreuves de style libre ont commencé aux Championnats panaméricains 2023 à Buenos Aires, en Argentine.

L'Equateur a remporté deux titres panaméricains en lutte féminine aujourd'hui, en 53kg et 57kg.

Lucia YEPEZ GUZMAN (ECU) a remporté son premier titre panaméricain senior avec une remarquable performance en 53kg. En finale, elle a battu Betzabeth AGUELLO VILLEGAS (VEN). La vénézuélienne a été la première à inscrire au tableau un point de passivité mais Yepez a rapidement marqué un takedown à la suite d'un contre. En seconde période, Yepez a remporté un point de passivité et deux caution-and-ones pour remporter le combat 5-1.

Plus tôt dans la journée, Aguello Villegas a éliminé la championne du monde en titre Dominique PARRISH (USA), 8-6, en quarts de finale.

En 57kg, une surprise précoce de la championne olympique et favorite de sa catégorie de poids, Helen MAROULIS (USA) a ouvert la voie à une autre compétitrice pour ajouter “championne continentale” à son CV. Luisa VALVERDE MELENDRES (ECU) a profité de l'occasion pour faire son chemin vers les finales où elle a battu Giullia OLIVEIRA (BRA), 4-2. La victoire marque sa seconde médaille d'or panaméricaine.

Le Canada a gagné une championne en Ana GODINEZ GONZALEZ (CAN) quia complété son parcours pour le titre en 62kg. En finale, Godinez a réalisé un pin sur Nathali GRIMAN HERRERA (VEN) en première période. Bien que Griman ait marqué la première, Godinez est revenu à la charge avec une projection près du bord mettant Griman sur le dos pour un tombé à 1:21.

Milaimys MARIN POTRILLE (CUB) est l'une des poids lourds les plus prometteurs de Cuba. Avec l'or mondial U20 et U23 ainsi qu'un titre aux Jeux Olympiques de la Jeunesse, Marin Potrille a ajouté son premier titre continental au niveau senior. En finale, elle était opposée à Tatiana RENTERIA RENTERIA (COL). Marin a pris une avance de 3-0 à la pause, grâce à un takedown au buzzer. Dans la deuxième période, Marin a ajouté une paire de step-outs et un go-behind takedown pour compléter une victoire décisive 7-0.

Entre les deux styles, les Etats-Unis ont enregistré quatre performances de médaille d'or. Parmi les faits marquants du jour, Jordan BURROUGHS (USA) a remporté son sixième titre de championnat panaméricain et Sarah HILDEBRANDT (USA) a remporté sa septième médaille d'or au championnat panaméricain.

Burroughs, sextuple champion du monde et médaillé d'or olympique, a dominé en 79kg, surpassant sa  compétition, 30-0, pour monter sur le podium. En finale, son match le plus court de la journée, Burroughs a mis seulement 74 secondes pour remporter la victoire sur Jasmit PHULKA (CAN). Burroughs a marqué un takedown dans un leg lace suivi par un takedown à quatre point à partir d'un double blast et a terminé avec un autre double blast caractéristique.

Luttant en 50kg en lutte féminine, Hildebrandt, médaillée mondiale et olympique, a fait 3-0 sur la journée avec trois victoires par tombés techniques 10-0 dont sa victoire en finale sur Jacqueline MOLLOCANA ELENO (ECU). En seulement 48 secondes, Hildebrandt a marqué un takedown et verrouillé un leg lace serré pour faire quatre tours pour remporter le No. 8.  

Forrest MOLINARI (USA) a remporté son troisième championnat panaméricain vendredi en s'emparant de la couronne en 68kg. Molinari, médaillée de bronze mondiale, n'a eu besoin que de 46 secondes  pour assurer un pin en finale sur Ambar GARNICA FLORES (MEX). Au cours d'une mêlée, Molinari a marqué un takedown et fait tombé Garnica sur le dos.

En lutte libre, Michael MACCHIAVELLO (USA) a remporté le ronde à cinq en 92 kg. Dans le match pour la médaille d'or, Macchiavello a pris les devants 6-0 en contrant une tentative de arm throw de Jeremy POIRIER (CAN) pour un takedown en deux tours à partir d'un gut wrench. Quelques instants plus tard, Macchiavello a utilisé un knee pick pour mettre Poirier sur le dos pour un tombé en 1:39.won the five-man round robin at 92kg. In the gold-medal matchup, Macchiavello went up early, 6-0, countering an attempted arm throw from Jeremy POIRIER (CAN) for a takedown into two turns from a gut wrench. Moments later, Macchiavello used a knee pick to get Poirier to his back for a fall in 1:39.
