IOC Refugee Scholarship Holders Oboadi, Alwad in Training Videos

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY (May 1) -- IOC Refugee Scholarship recipient and Greco-Roman wrestler Aker Al OBOADI shared a video of himself training during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Oboadi who left his home in Iraq for Austria, is preparing for the opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo set to start July 23, 2021.


AL OBOADI and Ali ALAWAD, originally from Syria, are the first two wrestlers in the history of our sport to wear the UWW flag at the continental and world competitions. Thanks to the initiative of the IOC and National Olympic Committees of  Austria and Egypt, wrestling refugees are entitled to take part in the sport and pursue their Olympic dream. Both athletes plan to compete in their respective continental qualifiers in 2021, and if necessary, the "Last Chance" Olympic qualifier.

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY, Switzerland (December 19) --United World Wrestling (UWW) is proud to announce the renewal of its partnership with Taishan in the mats category for the next Olympic cycle.

As part of this renewed agreement, Taishan will maintain exclusivity for the senior World Championships, ensuring the continued use of their premium mats for the sport's most prestigious events.

During a recent visit to Taishan’s headquarters and factory, UWW President Nenad LALOVIC praised the long-standing collaboration between the two organizations. He highlighted the importance of extending this successful partnership to support the growth and development of wrestling globally.

“United World Wrestling is delighted to extend its partnership with Taishan for another 4 years,” said Lalovic. “Taishan has been a reliable and valued partner, consistently providing high-quality equipment that meets the needs of our athletes and events. He was particularly impressed by Taishan’s innovative flexi-roll wrestling mats, gym equipment, carbon fiber bicycles, and artificial turf production, showcasing Taishan’s versatility and commitment to innovation across the sports industry.
